Day 17

Worship music ministers to me in a powerful way. The song that’s been playing in my mind most prominently
lately is Waymaker.
The chorus goes: Waymaker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light
in the darkness, my God, that is who You are.
Those are some powerful words and claims of who God is.
Last night I woke in the middle of the night in a panic. I wake up a lot in the night (a product of my
age-haha), but this state of mind was unusual. What was the reason for my panic? Basically, the condition of our world right now. I don’t think I’ve experienced this kind of
darkness in our world in my lifetime: a pandemic, social unrest and political
division may be the overall arching issues, but the fall out from these almost
seem unending. As I lay in bed letting
myself go down the rabbit hole of fear, I knew I had to break out. And I know the only power I have to do that
is the power of prayer. So, that is
where I went, asking God to break the strongholds of fear. Immediately, the Waymaker song came to
mind. As the chorus kept playing over
and over in my mind, I broke down each of these characteristics of God.
Waymaker- God is the waymaker to hope. I’ve been thinking a lot about hope lately,
or more specially the lack of hope. People cannot live without hope. We need hope to move forward when things are unbearable. If we have hope that somehow, someday things
will get better, we can make it through that next day. ‘I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you
completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow
with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.’ Romans 15:13
Miracle Worker- If we open our eyes, we can see His miracles around us. We may not see people raised from the dead or
a lame man jump up and dance, but God is working. In March, I believe God blessed our family
with a miracle. Our second son,
Jonathan, got married on March 7th and got on a plane for his
honeymoon in Jamaica the next day, 5 days before the country basically
shutdown. Had it been planned for a week
or 2 later it most likely would not have happened at all. God went before us when the date was being
set. He knew what would be happening on
March 13th 2020 and He guided our plans.
Promise Keeper - God’s Word is full of His promises for us and He will keep
every last one of them. Just a few that
have been standing out lately are:
Matthew 6:33 - ‘Seek
the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give
you everything you need.’ In these uncertain times, we can trust God to
take care of us.
Romans
8:28 - ‘And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are
called according to His purpose for them.’ Good is and will be coming.
Romans 8:39 - ‘No
power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation
will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in
Christ Jesus our Lord.’ This one is
really powerful for me. Thank you,
God!!!
Light in the darkness- Jesus is the light of the world and there is no darkness in
Him. Like I said earlier, I feel a heavy
darkness in the world today. But
God!!! God is the Light. I am incredibly thankful that no matter how
dark the things around us may seem, when we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the
author and perfecter of our faith, we can see everything through the lens of
His light.
My God, that is who YOU are.
Prayer
Almighty God, thank you that we are
not left in this world alone. You are
the God who draws near to the broken hearted and the weakened. We praise your
Holy name that nothing in all creation can separate us from your love. Help us, your children, to keep our eyes focused
on you. May we draw our strength from
you, our waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
