David Anderson

How did you become a Christian?
I grew up in a Christian family and invited Christ into my life at an early age. My family was involved in the Evangelical Free Church denomination, I began to really grow in my faith in college at Northern Illinois University with the help of Campus Crusade for Christ (now referred to as CRU). I learned about the importance of Christ continually being on the throne of my life, the power of the Holy Spirit to help us become more Christ like, evangelism, and discipleship. I spent a year with CRU doing mission work (showing the Jesus movie and discipleship) on various islands in Micronesia (specifically Majuro and Lae Atoll) and about 3-6 months in the soviet Union (before it became Russia). After running the Child and Adolescent Psych Units at Lutheran General (I became a psychologist), I became the Exec Director of Lydia Home (a Christian Child Welfare agency) and launched Safe Families. I also had the privilege of pastoring a church-plant associated with Mark Jobe and New Life Churches.

How long have you been at SPC? - 15 Years

Why are you drawn to the role of Elder?
With our kids grown, I have more bandwidth to serve. I love South Park and feel called to serving as an elder. I believe my Spiritual Gifts, leadership skills in running two ministries with over 300 staff total, has provided me the opportunity to develop skills that could be useful to South Park.

What is your favorite Bible verse or story?
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by Grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Where are you involved through SPC?
Safe Families at South Park (currently leading it, providing nearly 100 hostings,) Alpha evangelism, small groups.

What is a fun fact about you?
